CSP Overview
CSP impacts more acres of working farmland than on a multi-year term than any other program offered by the NRCS. It is designed to help farmers and ranchers protect and improve the environment on productive and profitable farms. Through CSP, farmers can receive technical/financial assistance to actively manage/maintain existing conservation systems while also implementing additional conservation on land in production.
CSP funds are targeted to:
Who Can Apply?
Farmers anywhere in the country and apply for CSP funding at any time of the year. CSP is a very competitive program and enrollment is typically just once each year. The NRCS will rank applications and fund those that rank the highest until funding for that raking period is depleted.
Payments
Payment amounts can be determined by multiple factors including, but not limited to:
*Payments are capped at $40,000 / year, or $200,000 over the life of the 5-year contract.
Conservation Stewardship Program (CSP) helps you build on your existing conservation efforts while strengthening your operation. Whether you are looking to improve grazing conditions, increases crop yields, or develop wildlife habitat, we can custom design a CSP plan to help you meet those goals.
Eligibility
All private agricultural land, including crop and pasture, is eligible to enroll in CSP. All eligible land includes those acres on an agricultural operation under the effective control of a farmer, contiguous or not, and whether it is owned or rented. If the farm is not owned, then the producer may be required to show they have control over the property for the term, stated in the farm lease.
Applicants must enroll all acres that they operate, own, and rent. To qualify for CSP, farmers must satisfy several criterial designed to address resource concerns in a particular region or state. Under a CSP contract, farmers must demonstrate they:
-Are currently meeting or exceeding the stewardship threshold for at least 2 priority resource concern
-Will meet or exceed the stewardship threshold for at least 1 additional priority resource concern by the end of the 5-year contract.
We can help you determine best plan and practices for your farm operation. The first step is to evaluate your operation and take "inventory" of the practices and equipment. This is the foundation of the plan moving forward and will assist in decision making.
If you are already taking steps to improve the condition of the land, chances are CSP can help you find new ways to meet your goals.
